I know that these themes have come and gone, but if you re-use themes or have something similar, it’s nice to have access to completed ideas. Many of these can also be tweaked for a different theme. And any almost any of them could be used for just a fun kids craft- at home or in a group.
I’ve never been a big fan of the “crafts” suggested by most VBS curriculum. Maybe it’s because my mom never was a big fan of them, either. She and my Aunt did the VBS crafts for about as long as I can remember when I was a kid. I guess it must be in my blood for me to do them, too! So this section of my blog is devoted to the VBS crafts I’ve tried- and a bit of info on how they faired.
I try to keep things cheap, fun, and easy, and not too much ‘paper junk’ that smooshes within 3 hours of bringing it home and hits the garbage can.
To be fair to those making curriculum (our church uses Group), they have some good principle ideas and give you a selection of crafts they offer as well as suggestions of things you can make. I’ve also thought it’s wonderful that they tie the craft into the daily theme and bible stories/verses. So I try to do the same with my crafts.
I also check in with my hubby on my craft thoughts. He’s pretty good about telling me if he would have thought the craft was cool as a boy. He then is good at helping me brainstorm how to improve it for boy-friendliness.
Links below are for posts on the crafts we did for each years theme- I’ll post as I get them done and continue as the years pass.
Also included are some other kids crafts. If you’re STILL hungry for more, check out my MOPS page- some of the crafts there are suitable for kids, especially older kids or teens.
